What is a good age to start crocheting?
All children are different so there is no specific age at which a child can learn to crochet. Most children can start learning the basics of crochet at around age 5. Then they can start learning more difficult patterns around the age of nine.
I have taught some of my granddaughters how to crochet and personally I feel around 7-8 is a good age. Actually, my thoughts are a little older, but all children are different. Kids get discouraged easily. If you start them out too young, they may get frustrated and not ever want to do it again.
What is a good project to start with?
The attention span of a child is short. Therefore, remember to keep the projects simple, easy and small. Some good projects to start with would be an easy crochet necklace, coasters, a simple dishcloth, a basic hat, granny square blanket or a beginner friendly shawl.

If you are not a crafty person yourself, you may not know what to buy to make a project. That is why a crochet kit is so great. It will normally include everything needed for a project. The kits will usually include a crochet hook of the correct size for the project, a pattern and the yarn needed for that project.
